60: Lone Rangers

1.06.2012 – 1.06.2012 rain 18 °C

After a fairly basic night’s sleep we woke to discover we were the only people staying in the whole hotel.. considering we paid 100 for the three of us to sleep last night (in two rooms) that feels to me like that they probably didn’t make a profit yesterday…. Pretty funny huh? Anyway, we realised we were lone rangers whilst we had brekky in the lounge.. Hadn’t been used and not a single sound in the whole building!!

Anyway, once we had eaten our brekky we headed back on the road leaving Torfino behind and heading down to the capital Victoria. As the rain tumbled down we drove back down the windy road and back down to Coombs. The goaties were still eating away at their back yard (which is the roof of the market area!) and we entered the most eclectic market I’ve seen in a long time.. The interior was a mixture of wooden log cabin, buddhist temple, seventies revival, with a touch of Mumma’s kitchen… Just weird! But although weird, it did have some great looking herb bread, meat pies (first we’ve seen on this continent), and Asian stir fry packet mixes… Mmmm. After some lunch purchases and a general wander thru this different store we got back on our way down to Victoria.

We arrived down in Victoria just after lunch and started off at the information centre hunting for some accom! The lady directed us over to the other side of the harbour to check out a particular hotel that appeared to be in our usual price range. We drove around the block (the other side of the harbour isn’t too far away!) and found heaps of hotels! Rather than just go with the suggestion we cased them all and found one that really fit the bill! We booked in to the Royal Scotsman and took a suite with kitchenette, which means plenty of great meals!!

D and I then headed down town to find ourselves some dinner and a movie.. Actually, one of the benefits of this hotel is that they have a free shuttle bus to anywhere downtown! So we hopped on and the driver took us into China town for some scrummy Chinese food. Our movie of choice (well, my movie of choice) was the new Snow White movie.. What a disappointment! One very ordinary movie that isn’t even worth a watch on DVD!! The only positive about our movie experience was the cheap chockies and water we got from the dollar shop!! Less than $2 for two waters and two mars bars!!

  1. One of the food items I craved on my holidays was a pie! If I had of seen one I would have swooped down on it and inhaled it within seconds

  2. One mars bar for two dollars would have been a bargain, reminds me of the mars bar deals that used to be on during swotvac at uni…good times
