86: Doin’ nothin’

Day 2 just cruisin’ the Caribbean… Gosh my life is tough at the moment.. Today was an “At Sea” day which is ship talk for a doing nothing all day but sitting on your backside with a book in hand and a cocktail close by! Pretty much this is what we did all morning! We all slept in and went up to deck #9 for a buffet brekky (you can go and seat formally in the dining room for breakfast, but being our first day we decided to lounge around upstairs at the buffet).

After brekky we attempted to hit the adults only area of the pool deck to read and relax… Hmmm… Only problem with At Sea days is that everyone has exactly the same idea… If you want a good position you need to stake your claim early.. as we didn’t, we ended up sitting in the adults area at one of the tables and chairs.. Wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t lazin’ by the pool either! To be fair, I didn’t even bother to put my swimmers on… it is really, really hot here in the Caribbean and sitting in an extremely overcrowded pool in the stinking hot sun getting fried is not my idea of fun.. Maybe it’s a sign that I’m getting old… depressing thought…

After sweating for a couple of hours nearby to the pool we headed inside for a bite to eat and the afternoon trivia contest that was on down near the art auction. I actually ventured into the auction to have a squiz at the paintings.. they had some goodun’s but knowing I couldn’t afford to attend I figured the trivia was more my game.. The three of us did pretty well at the trivia but we didn’t win.. a bit disappointing actually.. we only missed out by one question, that being: “which tv show beginning with “moon” did Cybill Shepherd star in?”, considering none of us watch much American tv we were totally out of our depth… Moonlighting is the answer…. Not that we knew that!

We also spent some time in the casino with the croupier getting the finer points on how to play craps… I’m still not too sure but I might have to challenge old D to a go on the craps table later on! M and I also hit the shops on deck #3 to check out what sort of bargains were on offer… plenty of diamonds and watches if you have some spare cash (and looking at the number of people in the shops, some people obviously have some spare $$ laid aside). We also had a game of bingo (neither D or I won) and joined in on the ship board murder mystery game… the big who-dunnit… six suspects, six murder weapons…. and a few hundred sleuths… Hmmm chances of winning this one… slim!

My afternoon ended up very relaxed with me attending a pilates session in the gym.. it was a big class with a grand total of four ladies attending with one instructor… old pilates is a popular past time here on this cruise!

Our evening saw us done our very formal attire for the formal dining (or in my case; jeans and a nicer top— no formal attire for any of us little chickens) and spending the evening at one comedy show and the jazz show in the main auditorium. The jazz show was not too bad.. I wouldn’t have spent plenty of money on it but for a freebie I couldn’t really complain… plenty of great music, singing and dancing and all free!

Whew, Day 2 on board over and already I need a rest… No rest for the wicked though because D and I are off in dune buggies tomorrow in Cozumel in Mexico!

Song of the Day– UB40, Red, Red Wine!
