11: Doctor’s orders!

20.09.2012 – 20.09.2012 semi-overcast 14 °C

I didn’t bother to get out of bed early this morning. Not because I wanted to sleep in but because my neck was hurting so badly that I didn’t want to move it around too much! I’ve been suffering with a sore neck since I injured it ATVing in Mexico and although I would have expected it to be better by now it seems to be actually getting worse!

After I had gotten myself going I decided not to muck around anymore but to go find myself a physio and get it looked at. First physio I found told me there was no available appointments til end of Oct!!! Holy Smokes! Fortunately, the receptionist gave me a couple of other reputable physios in town and the first one I went to was able to see me straight away!

Excellent! An hour and twenty minutes later and I was back out the door. The physio had warmed up my neck using those awesome pillow heat pack thingys they use, applied ultrasonics and electric shock therapy (I’d never had it before, but it feels just like one of those vibrating massage chairs!). By the time I left, I was still sore but at least able to move my neck! Far better than the day before where I tried to drive by turning my whole body… not pleasant or easy! I rebooked in for the following day and following the physio’s advice decided to take it easy and do nothing but rest for the afternoon.

Before I did nothing (and whilst the neck was still pliable) I did head to the local Laundromat to get some washing done. Bundled up against the cold, scarf around the neck I spent an hour and a bit waiting for my laundry before I headed back to the hostel. Lunch was some yummy muffins with strawberry jam and I whiled away the afternoon on the couch in the hostel watching Tombstone (a movie). It wasn’t actually that bad, well at least for a western, and it was far superior to lying looking at the ceiling in my dorm room.

Because, my blog is largely boring today I thought I’d describe some of my fellow house guests and the hostel itself. The hostel is an old house that has been modified slightly to accommodate more people. The bathrooms and main dorms are upstairs, my room (sleeps 4 ladies) is downstairs along with the kitchen and the common room. The kitchen is quite homey, it has a nice big wooden dining table bang smack in the middle so it makes people want to sit around in the kitchen and chat. Its also the place where we all eat brekky (which is included in the nightly rate!). Some of the guests here are actually students at the local college who work at the hostel during the season, and then once the hostel closes in mid Oct they become the full time renters of this huge house! Not a bad gig I reckon!! To be fair though, probably not my cup of tea.. Until the hostel closes they all have to sleep in dorm rooms sharing with other travellers who only really hang around for a day or so…

My day finished with me stretching my legs and deciding to go for a wander down to the waterfront and to find myself some dinner. The waterfront isn’t quite Halifax calibre (in fact Charlottetown is nothing like Halifax) but the Fish and Chips I had for dinner were top shelf, so I really couldn’t complain! The performing arts centre here in town was on the way to the F&C shop so I did stop in to see if Anne of GG was playing… Only Mon-Thurs… Damn! I would have liked to have seen a stage production of the PEI heroine!

  1. In one of your previous blogs you gave the list of “songs of the day”, I’m hoping a future blog will give the list of meals and the number of times you have had things like fish and chips 🙂
