14: Goodbye Costa Rica!

19.10.2012 – 19.10.2012 semi-overcast 32 °C

Ursula and I actually got going at the surprisingly early time of 9.30am. I say surprisingly because we didn’t get to bed til after 3.30am. Yep, so I was hung over and super tired… Not a fab start to the day! Like always, once you have some food and strong cup of coffee in your body you start to feel a heap better so by the time brekky was over I was feeling semi alive and ready to tackle the day.

Ursula and I didn’t do much other than pack our stuff and chat.. Before we knew it, it was time for us to check out of the hotel and find the boys. Most of them hadn’t surfaced til after 10am so we hadn’t seen them much that morning. The five of us, Marcel, Tom, Tony, Ursula and myself all headed for the coffee shop for a cold drink and a farewell chat. I am going to miss hanging out with this gang, we’ve had some good times!

After doing some quick chores and saying farewell to the Crazy Dutch boys (who are staying a few extra days in Quepos) I headed for the bus terminal and the last leg of my Costa Rican adventure. The bus trip was fairly uneventful until we stopped for a toilet and food break stop. Getting back on the bus one of my other travel companions, Mick, realised that someone had stolen his backpack! What a crap way to end your trip?? Fortunately, the thief only managed to steal a pair of shoes and some clothes (nothing important) but still a pretty disappointing way to end the trip. The thief had gotten away with the clothes so there wasn’t much anyone could do… I’m pretty lucky, I had thought about leaving my backpack on the bus (laptop, camera, passport, money etc inside) but was talked out of it at the last minute by Tony.. Thank gosh he talked me out of it!!!

We arrived back in San Jose about 7pm, just in time for one last CR dinner. Allan took us to this really nice restaurant that was an old coffee planter’s home that has been converted into a business. The architecture reminded me a bit of a QLDer so you can sort of picture what the house looked like. Food was pretty good so our last moments as a group in CR ended with smiles all around! Tomorrow I’ve got a very early start (4.30am taxi to the airport) to start my other Latin American trip… Finger’s crossed I get as good a group as the one I had in CR!! Thanks team for a super fabulous time!

  1. Sounds like you have had a great time in CR. So dissapointing for Mick getting his pack stolen. I have a real fear of stuff getting stolen whilst travelling. Lucky he didn’t lose any tech stuff.

Stop posting while I’m responding! I can’t keep up and look like I’m doing work at the same time.

Hope you have recovered from your hang over 🙂
