1: Testing out Singapore

31.10.2016 – 01.11.2016 sunny 25 °C

For those of you who have followed me for awhile, you will know that there is only one way to travel long haul… and that’s business class. For the first time i’m going to be testing out Singapore Airlines… I’ve given her a whirl a couple of times in Economy but have never sat up the sharp end. My first impression is of the lounge… to be honest, fairly basic here in old Sydney town. Apparently we won’t have enough time in Sing to test out the flagship on our way over… Hopefully we can on the return journey.

Anyway, this is also the first time i’ve headed O/S with a friend! Many a time i’ve travelled with family (or on my lonesome) but this is the first time i’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with a good mate for 10 days. Started off interestingly….. I hadn’t warned Kellie about my aversion to the body-scan. And i did what i’ve done at every other airport that has ever asked me to scan… Postively refused! This time I didn’t get the usual “no problems madame, why don’t you step over here and we’ll frisk you….” no sir-rey! This time it took three staff members to coax me through. Only after discovering that they no longer use x-rays did i consent to the body scan. Meanwhile, patient Kellie is waiting outside for me!!! I probably should have warned her…….

Getting on the plane should have been a stressful endeavour. Stressful because i’d conveniently forgotten that in two days time I need to pay a deposit on my new house. Going to be slightly difficult considering i’m not in the country (and i had forgotten).. However, it wasn’t stressful. I think my brain was at the point of what will be, will be- in other words if I couldn’t work something out, the house clearly wasn’t going to be mine! With less than 5mins to spare (before they closed the doors) I had worked through a solution with my bank manager and off I went!

businessLet’s just say that the glass of champers on arrival in BC was very welcome. So to some comparisons…. Firstly, no pjs on board Singapore!!! What the?!? (You see i had decided to not pack any jarmies.. I mean, when you get freebies- why bother?)  However, Singers doesn’t provide!!!! (will do a stop in at Uniqlo when i arrive so all good).. That’s where the negatives end though. Singapore Airlines is easily a cut above. Very comfy armchairs that double into flat beds when you are ready to go nighty-night and two pillows– without having to ask!

Our trip to Singapore was on a A380! Had no clue until we got off and saw how big the plane was.. just goes to show how quickly I jumped on board– didn’t pay any attention. Can now officially tick an A380 off my list! Dinner was superb- veal with potato mash and Independence Day Resurrection got me a good part of the way to Singapore.

bc2Arrived in Singers with less than 40mins before our next plane to Tokyo.. Jumped on, wrapped myself in my blankie and went straight off to sleep. No dinner for me at midnight!

I’ll leave Day 1 there and give everyone the run down of our 6am arrival in tomorrow’s blog!

Singapore Airlines- now my first pick for business class airline

  1. Andy here, in case I’m still in Barbara’s. FB. You’re a bit of a character Diane, though I knew that, Barbara. & I think Singapore Airlines. are the best. Great service, clean facilities (immaculate) & that’s just in cattle class!! Haven’t had the pleasure of BC, but would recommend Singapore Airlines to anyone.
Have a great and exciting trip Diane.

    Love from uncle Andy
