5: Cherry Blossoms!

8.4.2012 – 8.4.2012 sunny 18 °C

Early start this morning as M&D had a 9.20 flight to Seattle. We were on different flights so I had an extra hour up my sleeve to kill before I too boarded the plane for Seattle. I was flying with American Airlines but was on a co-share flight with Alaskan so of course that meant that I turned up at the wrong terminal (AA not Alaskan) and had to walk to the Alaskan terminal! Lucky I had the extra hour up my sleeve!

Anyway, flight was the usual; squishy no service type affair that meant it wasn’t the most pleasant two and half hours of my life (not very happy when I had purchased a full fare flight thinking I would get some eats!) Arrived in Seattle to a warm balmy 18 or so degrees (which for this time of year is pretty warm) with an unbelievably clear sky and sunshine!!! (this being one of the wettest cities in the world!) Jumped in the rental car (a Mazda 6 this time) and headed north towards Vancouver.

Drive was longer than I expected (it probably took us well over four hours to get from Seattle to Vancouver!) and of course we had to drive thru the border crossing to Canada. The drive from Seattle to Vancouver was a beautiful drive. All of the trees are starting to get their leaves and many of the plants are starting to flower so it was a very colourful trip!

Vancouver itself (the bit I saw driving in—we didn’t arrive til after 5.30pm) is best described as cherry blossom heaven with a backdrop of huge snow capped mountains! This time of year has to be one of the most picturesque times of the year to see this city… Honestly, just GORGEOUS! It is a shame we don’t have the four seasons so that we can appreciate the colours of trees like these and the snowy vistas! (But we would have to put up with freezing winters…..)

Anyway, we checked in to the YMCA and went hunting some groceries to cook some dinner before heading in for an early night. We’re going to spend tomorrow out and about exploring this beautiful city before heading to Whistler on Tuesday for SKIING!!!  (You can’t half tell that I’m looking forward to hitting the slopes)

Song of the Day- Village People, YMCA!

  1. You should have asked me about the drive from Seattle to Vancouver!! I could have told you all about it. Well I have heard Whistler has great snow so enjoy! Enjoy my homes. I am from just outside of Vancouver and lived in Whistler for over 6 years!! xx

  2. sounds like an awesome location with all the cherry blossoms and snow capped mountains. As beautiful as it sounds, I’m glad we don’t have the four seasons here. It was a great decision to trade one of the colder seasons for extra summer.

embarassed to say I already have the village people’s YMCA on my ipod
