“On the road again”.. Is probably an apt way to begin today’s blog and the first blog of the Teutonic Tales. The day started damn early with me catching the 7am train from Oslo to Goteborg in Sweden. Pretty uneventful trip with me sleeping though at least half of it! Unfortunately, track work is again happening so I had to switch to a bus just outside of Goteborg for the final leg! Once in Goteborg I changed trains to the Copenhagen train.. It was a bit tricky for me to work out which train to catch because it was labelled Kobenham (which is the spelling in Swedish) so I had to find someone to work out whether it was the right train or not! I didn’t want to end up in some hick town that is named similarly!

4hrs later (and 8hrs after leaving Oslo) I arrived at Kobenhavn (Danish spelling) Central!

First impressions of Copenhagen are really, really good.. the town has a really quaint look but with a real modern bustle! I’m staying in the old part of town so most of the buildings are 1600s style with cobble stoned streets. The big initial difference I’ve noticed between Copenhagen and Stockholm is the streets. They are mainly all wide boulevards with special lanes just for push bikes.. Any my god they are some push bikes in this town.. Lined up at the main entrance to the station there would have been hundreds, maybe even a thousand, push bikes all parked out the front. I’ve never seen so many bikes in one place ever!

One of the main streets is almost a km long of pedestrian mall.. and it is packed! Almost shoulder to shoulder shuffling down the street! Amazing! After doing an initial tour and a good hour at the tourist office working out what I can do in Copenhagen (and deciding that 3 days here is nowhere near enough time) I headed back to my digs (not as nice as Oslo but in a good location) for an early night and a catch up on my blog (as I’ve been just a tinnie bit slack the last couple of days). Off tomorrow for a three hour walking tour of Copenhagen for free!

  1. sounds like the train trip I had to the “swich” I had to hop off for track works as well, the bus I got on smelt like pee.

The idea of separate push bike lanes is great
