23.08.2012 – 23.08.2012 sunny 25 °C

Slow old day today. We left Bryson early and headed down thru south western Nth Carolina to the Tennessee border and then over into Georgia. The first part of the trip was a drive thru the bottom of the Appalachian Mountains and into Blue Ridge, Georgia. The town was our first stop for the day as D’s reading glasses died again yesterday so we needed to find ourselves an optometrist so that the glass could be put back into his frames.

Once we had fixed up D’s vision we continued on our drive straight across Georgia for Augusta, home to the US Masters. The bottom of the Appalachian’s is a forest called the Chattahoochee (cool name huh?) so plenty of greenery and windy roads… (I will be happy when we leave the mountains behind so that I can get back to blogging on a daily basis in the back of the car!)

Smoko stop was out on the freeway when we stopped to pick up our usual brochures for accom. To be completely fair that was one of the highlights of the whole day! The part of Georgia we drove thru today was farms, farms and more farms so nothing really doin’!

By the time we got to Augusta we had, had a brain wave and decided to see if we could use our points that we have been collecting (from using the same hotel chain) to score a free night’s accommodation!!! We had more than enough points for a free night, so in we hopped!! Pretty happy about not having to pay for tonight’s accom (which includes brekky tomorrow!!)… To celebrate our free night’s accom we headed out first to see the golf course for old D and to have dinner at Outback Steak for me!

Well, the golf course is super famous and is super unattainable for us plebs… The course is surrounded by a huge hedge, easily twice the height of a person. There seemed to be only one entry, which is a manned security gate.. It’s so unattainable that we couldn’t even get a photo of D standing in front of a sign or something… In fact, if we didn’t know that this was the golf course (and we only knew that from google maps) then we would have driven straight passed without a second glance.. Sadly for D no photographic proof, but we know we’ve been there!!

Our dinner made up for D’s disappointment over Augusta. Outback Steak offers a three piece meal for only 15 dollars each so we all signed on for a tasty dinner (steak for me) and even grabbed a couple of cheap drinks (don’t you love two for one!). We all went home very happy today, free night’s accom and a tasty dinner.. WIN WIN!!

Song of the Day– Ray Charles, Georgia on my mind
