3: Two gorgeous ladies and one very gorgeous sunset..

I had a big day today! My day started pretty late as we had all agreed to have a little sleep-in… That’s the part that I don’t miss about working, I love being able to wake up whenever my body decides it’s time to wake up, not when the alarm tells me to!

Once I’d had my usual bite to eat (muesli—well, Granola—and yoghurt), Renee and I headed out to check out the local farmer’s markets. From what everyone had told me I was expecting something pretty special.. Now I’m not sure if we missed the markets, or whether they aren’t that special after all but what we saw was a pretty ho-hum affair. A couple of retailers selling some basic nicky-nack crap and some jams.. Not what I was expecting at all! So the markets were a big flop, but this wasn’t going to ruin our day. Instead of wandering around the non-existent markets we headed back to the harbour foreshore to find ourselves some morning tea. We found some morning tea in this small café next door to a map shop. Map shops aren’t something you see everywhere, so we both agreed to stop and have a look at the wares. As it turned out this shop sells more than just maps, it sells a great selection of atlases, road maps and guide books! BINGO.. I’ve been looking for a guide book for my time in Central America and here in Halifax I’ve found just what I’m looking for!

So with guide book in tow we kept on our sojourn down to the harbour front. We stopped in at a tourist shop selling of all things, Nova Scotian Whiskey Cake… Trust me. Oh. So. Good. It was that good that Renee and I decided to buy one and split it! Desert for this evening (or smoko for another day)!

Our lunch stop was down on the harbour front at the take away fish and chippery (complete with a newspaper wrapper!). We didn’t have fish and chips we had Poutine! I figured what the heck, I’m only going to have this incredibly yummy but oh so fattening meal a couple of times in my life so why not? Our lunch spot was pretty nice, not only were we chowing down on yummy Poutine but we were able to do it sitting under an umbrella in the sunshine on the harbour in Halifax.. Does it get any better than a lazy lunch in the sun?

My afternoon was spent back at the grindstone, or as it is more commonly known the laptop working my way thru my extremely out dated blog. I also spent some of my precious time planning the next part of my trip, namely where in god’s name am I going to go here in Nova Scotia and how am I going to get there?

Anyway, just before dinner time Renee returned to the hostel and Sara and I piled into her, oh so cute, corolla and headed south of Halifax for this very famous place called Peggy’s Cove. It is a photographer’s paradise and it really turned it on for us this afternoon. We arrived about thirty minutes before the sun set so the sky was already starting to get colourful. The main highlight of the area is the gorgeous light house that is perched out on a rocky outcrop. The lighthouse is so situated that it actually faces west (which is a bit hard to get your head around when you realise that Peggy’s Cove is South East of Halifax!) so it faces almost directly into the setting sun. We had picked probably one of the best days to visit the cove on sun set because there wasn’t a whisper of a cloud on the horizon and plenty of breeze to ensure it stayed that way.

No joke, easily one of the best sunsets I’ve ever captured on my camera and easily one of the best I’ve ever seen. Not only was the sky a gorgeous colour but the lighthouse itself made such an interesting silhouette against the skyline.. Extremely beautiful!

Straight after the sun went down (and gosh the temp drops quickly once the sun dips below the horizon), we trooped inside to the old lighthouse keepers cottage to have ourselves another seafood supper! This time I went for the seafood chowder and some fresh crusty bread.. Mmmm J.. Not quite Washington State clam chowder good but still pretty alright!

On arrival back at the hostel we were disappointed to discover that many of the members of the hostel had headed out for a few drinks. We couldn’t find them, so we decided to just head to a pub and have our own fun! We found our fun down at Dirty Nellies, an Irish bar that had a great live band playing and a really great vibe.. Many hours later we all trooped back to the hostel and fell into bed totally and utterly exhausted!
